Expected opening 2012 | 105,000 sq ft

Centros is working in partnership with Development Securities plc on proposals to regenerate the Princes Road area of Wells – the smallest city in England. We are currently in the latter stages of a masterplanning and consultation process and expect to submit a planning application in late 2008.

With the city’s catchment population being drawn away by the expanding shopping attractions of places like Bath and Bristol, Wells needs to halt its decline by increasing its own retail attraction. Like many similar size historic towns, this
can’t easily be achieved within the
existing core.
But the Princes Road area of the city centre – currently a poor quality site – offers scope for new shopping to complement the city centre.

Our proposed development will create a new open shopping street leading from a 300-space car park, a rebuilt bus station and coach arrival point and linking into the city centre. Anchored by a small format department store and a high-quality food store, the development will create around 26 new shops plus three restaurants or cafés, enhancements to the existing independent cinema, some offices above the shops and a terrace of town houses.
