Expected opening 2012 | 500,000 sq ft

Castle View represents the only available opportunity for Lancaster to provide sufficient retail attraction to satisfy its local population and keep them from travelling long distances to Preston and Manchester. Centros is working in partnership with the site’s principal owners, Lancaster City Council and Mitchell’s of Lancaster to extend the city’s retail and leisure amenities. Having obtained a clear-cut resolution to grant planning consent, the plans were recently called in and we are now awaiting the decision of the Secretary of State.
The scheme is set around a new public piazza linked via an open pedestrian shopping street through St Nicholas Arcades to the existing prime shopping in Penny Street. Debenhams has already signed up for a 97,500 sq ft department store, which will be complemented by around 30 new shops, 800 parking spaces and up to 179 apartments and town houses. The scheme’s unique character is formed by two existing theatres, a ‘Musicians’ Co-operative’ (where bands rehearse) and a canalside environment, all of which will be much enhanced by the development.
